Clinical and microbiological aspects of progression of periodontitis in young adults

Abstract
The progression of the young adult periodontitis were evaluated with clinical measurements of probing pocket depths and attachment levels at baseline and 1-year period. The subjects consisted of 23 young adults aged 18-19 in years having early type of periodontitis. The deepest four pockets of each individual were selected for bacterial culture and GCF biochemical profiles. PerioScan system for rapid chairside detection of P.gingivalisJT.denticola was used in addition to culture study and PerioCheck for rapid chairside detection of neutral protease was also used
The results indicated some possible use of PerioScan system as a predictor fot further attachment loss in periodontitis of young adults. However, PerioCheck system showed a weak value for predicting disease progression in young adults. There were no consistent patterns of bacterial ¢¥culture results in the active sites at this time of evaluation. This necessitates further observations.
